Headstone of  Edward, Ruth, son William and his wife Esther Griffiths, St Andrew, Netherton (2009).

With sincere thanks to Jean Langdell for providing the following information.

On the IGI there is a marriage of an Edward Griffiths and Ruth Flavell on 31st March 1841 at Aston Juxta, Birmingham, Warwickshire.  This marriage has not been confirmed.

 

1841 Census - Edward & Ruth and their children Jane, William and Amelia were living at Halesowen Road, Dudley, Worcs.

 

1851 Census – Edward & Ruth with their 3 children were living at Halesowen Road, Netherton, Dudley, Worcs. Edward’s occupation was a Butcher.

 

1861 Census – Edward & Ruth with their 3 children were living at Halesowen Road, Netherton, Dudley, Worcs.  Edward’s occupation was a Butcher.

 

1871 Census – Edward & Ruth with their children William and Amelia were living at 137 Halesowen Road, Netherton, Dudley, Worcs.  Edward’s occupation was a Butcher.

 

Edward Griffiths died on 3 June 1878 and was buried on 7 June 1878 Aged: 59 yrs.

 

Ruth Griffiths died: 26 Mar 1875 and was buried on 2 April 1875 Aged: 63 yrs.

 

There is a marriage of a William Henry Griffiths (possibly Edward & Ruth’s son) and Esther K. Brittain in 1872 at St Thomas’ Church, Dudley, Worcs.  This marriage has not been confirmed.

 

William Henry Griffiths died on 15 April 1902 and was buried on 18 April 1902 Aged 54 yrs.

 

Esther Kendrick Griffiths died on 7 March 1914 Aged 63 yrs.

On the IGI there is a marriage of a Herbert Ault and Elizabeth Griffin Walker on 2 May 1831 at Edbgaston, Warwickshire.  This marriage has not been confirmed.

 

1841 Census – Herbert & Elizabeth with their children Robert, Elizabeth, Ellen and Herbert were living at Darby Hand, Dudley, Worcs.  Herbert’s occupation was a Joiner.

 

1851 Census – Herbert & Elizabeth with their children Robert, Elizabeth, Ellen, Herbert, Jemima and Frederick were living at Netherton Hill, Dudley.  Herbert’s occupation was a Timber Dealer employing 62 men.

 

1861 Census – Herbert & Elizabeth with their children Elizabeth, Ellen, Jemima and Frederick were living at St John Street, Dudley.  Herbert’s occupation was a Builder and Appraiser.

 

Elizabeth Griffin Walker Ault died on 16 February 1865 and was buried on 23 February 1865 Aged 59 yrs.

 

1871 Census – Herbert (a Widower) and his daughter Elizabeth were living at 10 St John’s Road, Dudley, Worcs.  Herbert’s occupation was a Builder.

 

Herbert Ault died on 19 November 1878 and was buried on 23 November 1878 Aged 71 yrs.

 

Robert Walker Ault died on 11 April 1872 and was buried on 17 April 1872 Aged 39 yrs.


Headstone of Benjamin and Mary Bennett, St Andrew, Netherton (2009).

There is a marriage of a Benjamin Bennett and Mary Shaw in 1846 at St Thomas’ Church, Dudley.  This marriage has not been confirmed.

 

1851 England Census – Benjamin & Mary with their children Benjamin and Thomas were living at Primrose Hill, Dudley, Worcs.  Benjamin’s occupation was a Miner.

 

1861 Census – Benjamin & Mary with their children Benjamin, Sarah, Mary, Phoebe and Elizabeth were living at Netherton Hill, Netherton, Dudley, Worcs.  Benjamin’s occupation was a Victualler.

 

1871 Census – Benjamin & Mary with their children Sarah, Mary, Phoebe, Elizabeth, Samuel, Matilda, Clara and William H. were living at Sims Lane, Netherton, Dudley, Worcs.  Benjamin’s occupation was a Coal Miner.

 

1881 Census – Benjamin & Mary with their children Elizabeth, Samuel, Matilda, Clara and William were living at Sims Lane, Netherton, Dudley, Worcs.  Benjamin’s occupation was a Coal Miner.

 

Benjamin Bennett died on 16 October 1881 and was buried on 20 October 1881 Aged 52yrs.

 

1891 Census – Mary (a Widow) with her son William were living at Simms Lane, Netherton, Dudley, Worcs.  Also in the household there is a Matilda Guest aged 26 who is married, but no husband living in the household.  (There is a marriage of a Matilda Bennett to an Albert William Pearson Guest in 1889 at St. Andrew’s, Church, Netherton); Albert Guest (possibly Matilda’s son); Clara Vines (daughter of Mary & Benjamin Bennett) who married Albert Vines in 1890 at St James’ Church, Eve Hill, Dudley in 1890), Albert Vines (Clara’s husband) and Thomas Vines (son of Clara and Albert)

 

1901 Census – Mary Bennett was living at Simms Lane, Netherton, Dudley, Worcs.  Also living in the household was Clara Vines (Mary’s daughter); Albert Vines (Clara’s husband) and the children of Clara & Albert Vines who were Thomas, Ellen, Eli E. and Benjamin.

 

Mary Bennett died on April 18 1902 and was buried on 23 Apr 1902 Aged 72yrs.
